Start the Day the Way Local’s Do

Chilly autumn mornings in the mountains are enough to make anyone want to grab a good book, a hot morning beverage and a delicious bite for breakfast. Lucky for us in Park City, there’s the perfect cozy and locally owned spot to check all those boxes; Atticus Coffee, Books and Teahouse.  Expert baristas stand at the ready to whip up your favorite coffee, tea or smoothie drink, or to help you find a new favorite.  What’s cool about this particular Main Street spot is the story behind the store. Proprietors Randy and Ericah Winzeler opened Atticus in 2010 out of a passion for coffee, tea and providing healthy dining options to locals and visitors alike. Providing a comfortable hub for all to sit down together, sip a coffee or tea drink, nosh on healthy menu choices and delight in finding a new book or the perfect gift was their focus, and they have succeeded and evolved over the past almost eight years beyond their expectations.  Even more cool is that they have infused their family in to the business. From the mosaic glass murals created by Ericah’s sister to the music events held at the shop during Sundance curated by Ericah’s brother, this is a true local business and family bringing delightful dining choices to Main Street visitors.

Books and Brews, The perfect pairing.

On this particular morning, my coffee crew and I tried a few different items off of their substantial menu. My go-to drink is a latte, but this morning I decided to step outside the box and try something different. A turmeric tea latte sounded like the perfect autumnal beverage to kick off the day – and I must say, it’s now a new favorite. Known for its ancient healing properties and immune system boosting power, the creamy warm drink is not only tasty, but good for you, too. I paired my drink with The Sprout breakfast sandwich; an open face bagel covered in melty local white cheddar cheese, market fresh tomatoes and crunchy sprouts. My tip? Add avocado for a little extra belly-filling goodness. Another in my morning coffee gathering group decided on a more traditional hazelnut latte. Delivered over the counter with lovely coffee art in the foam, it was another solid choice for a morning pick-me-up. Paired with one of their breakfast staples, a hearty breakfast burrito, served with a side of salsa. Choose between breakfast meats or served up vegetarian style, it’s a stick-to-your-bones start to your morning. Other beverage options include hand-crafted smoothies, tea drinks and unique coffee drinks. Serving both breakfast and lunch, the menu is quite extensive and includes everything from simple pastries to Buddha bowls for morning options and ample salads, wraps and sandwiches for lunch time eating.

Time to dig in to coffee, breakfast and books!

On top of all the sumptuous food and beverage options, diners relish the opportunity to walk the aisles and check out a wide array of books, journals, funky gifts and charming knick-knacks. My advice to you? Grab a book, order up a tasty drink and snack, enjoy the local buzz around you and become a regular at this Main Street dining delight.

Atticus Coffee and Teahouse is located at 738 Main Street and is open from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. (summer hours). Check their website for more information  www.atticustea.com.
