I am the type of person who can definitely dabble in the world of gluten free, and sometimes yes, it does taste good. But as someone who does not need to eat gluten free, I usually don’t go out of my way to substitute with all the different types of flours, xantham gums, etc. while I am cooking or baking at home. If I’m going to make cookies, I’m going to make them with the good stuff: flour, sugar, butter and eggs.
Recently, my good friend Sierra Standriff, who also happens to be a kick a** personal trainer, tried making cauliflower pizza dough at home and posted it on her personal social media account. Are you as intrigued as I was? You should be, because she straight up used a vegetable to make pizza dough, and it also just happens to be gluten free as there is no flour included in the recipe whatsoever. Brilliant! I would so much rather skip the carbs as a whole than be confused about whether eating gluten free dough is much better for me as someone who’s not celiac. More importantly, it looks delicious. This recipe is definitely worth trying if you’re looking for a healthy alternative to your pizza night.
Ingredients
- 1 head cauliflower
- Italian seasoning
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup mozzarella
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
- 3 cloves garlic (less if you don't love garlic as much)
Instructions
- Remove stem from cauliflower and break up into pieces.
- Put into food processor and grind very well.
- Put the cauliflower in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for 5 minutes.
- Wait 5 minutes for cauliflower to cool.
- Squeeze the cauliflower to get all of the liquid out until you have a cauliflower ball.
- Next, put it into a bowl and add the Italian seasoning, egg, Parmesan cheese and garlic.
- Mix together until a dough like consistency has formed.
- On greased parchment paper, spread your "dough" out like you would normal crust.
- Bake at 500 F for 15 minutes.
- Add whatever toppings you'd like, return to oven for 5 additional minutes.
- Let cool and BAM! Tastes just like regular pizza .
