Up in the mountains, small ski towns use a common phrase to describe the shoulder seasons of spring and fall. Mud season. Other than the actual factor of mud, it is most commonly used to describe the times when the town quiets down, workers take their vacations and some establishments even close down for a bit, gearing up for the busy winter season ahead. Ours is just around the corner, and some establishments will be modifying their hours, a handful will be closing until the start of the winter ski and snowboard season, but many others will remain open.
