Most associate the French word après (“after”) with wintertime and many people’s favorite sport: après ski — a time for crackling fireplaces, steaming fondue and hot toddys. But why ditch the après idea when the weather warms up? There are plenty of great spots in Park City to indulge in après any time of year and sport, including summer and fall. We’ve broken down our favorites into a four part series. This four week blog will divulge where to park your bike, hiking shoes, etc. after a solid day’s adventure.
It’s impossible to talk about après anything in Park City without mentioning High West Distillery & Saloon. It’s a multi-tiered adult fun zone where locally distilled High West whiskey is the main attraction. Don’t overlook the excellent cooking of chef James Dumas, though, or you’ll miss out on his bodacious grilled tomahawk pork chop and boar baked beans. Called “the official wine of après ski,” Old Town Cellars is a private-label winery offering a selection of locally made white, red and rosé wines, along with craft beers, spirits and gourmet bar fare in its bar and lounge. Park Silly Sunday Market combines the best of a farmers market with live entertainment, an art show, unique vendors and a lively scene for shopping, dancing, imbibing, eating and more. The Beer Garden is the perfect spot to spend part of a Sunday afternoon enjoying a cold brew in the sunshine. Or, for a truly luxurious après, a visit to the Alpine Pool at Montage Deer Valley (if you are staying at the Montage) will surely do the trick. Float in the 30-foot-by-75-foot heated Alpine Pool and indulge in gourmet poolside fare such as Mediterranean halibut tacos, a blackened ahi tuna burger, organic vegetable quinoa salad, and the spiked adult popsicles like the Gin and Juice Sherbet Pop with dry gin, mandarin juice and vanilla.
