The U.S. Grand Prix at Park City Mountain Resort

Over the weekend, I had the luxury of spending time eating in VIP tents across town. The Visa Freestyle International was being hosted at Deer Valley, while the U.S. Snowboarding and Freeskiing Grand Prix was hosted at Park City. While Deer Valley is well known for their sophistication, class and incredible food (which they delivered), the spread at Park City really stood out for me too. Yes, it was a bluebird day and the U.S. women swept the podium in snowboarding, but the food was also really incredible.

The VIP tent was perfectly positioned at the bottom of the halfpipe, and upon entering, the first thing that greets you was a bar on your left (thank you very much, I’ll take another cold beer, please).  Then  the spread – two easy flowing buffet lines and two round tables with pre-served offerings. One table had dessert: perfect triangles of baklava easy to grab and head back outside to watch the comps. The other table had small portions of decadent salads including tortellini and pesto, mixed greens with apples, cranberries and pine nuts, farro and tomatoes or edamame. Each came in small individual cups or bowls.

If you wanted to dig into something deeper (and of course you do) you could run through the buffet line. There, you were transported around the globe with choices ranging from pulled pork sandwiches, Greek gyros and even an Asian banh mi sandwich. Of course, I chose the meatless route and opted for a couple Greek spanakopitas, a veggie sandwich with a Spanish romesco sauce and a side of piping hot mac and cheese.

Seriously, what a spread. Park City’s Food and Beverage Director Dierdra Walsh has worked hard elevating Park City Mountain’s cuisine, and it clearly shows with the thoughtful and absolutely delicious options available. After lunch, we headed back outside to witness 15-year old U.S. Snowboarder, Chloe Kim, snag a perfect score of 100 from the judges after landing the first ever back-to-back 1080s by a women. Then we watched U.S. Snowboarder Matt Ladley snag the gold for the men. Perfect ending to another epic day in Park City.

And Deer Valley’s show was everything you’d expect from food to incredible performances!
