Yuki Yama’s Top Floor Dining

Yuki Yama, which means snowy mountain in Japanese, is situated in the heart of Old Town Main Street and serves up some of Park City’s most mouthwatering sushi, sashimi, maki and noodle dishes. The ambiance is festive and comfortable, with accents of wood, stone and unique lighting fixtures. I’ve definitely been on a date or two here for its menu, perfect for sharing, and it’s intimate atmosphere. Their traditional Japanese tatami rooms on the main level create the perfect atmosphere for couples or larger parties who wish to dine in the classic Japanese style, with additional seating throughout the rest of the restaurant.

And now, after much anticipation and construction, Yuki Yama’s upstairs has transformed into an open, fantastic dining area with a Japanese, mountainesque feel.

The building that houses Yuki Yama is a typical example of the style of Park City buildings from the early 1900s. Originally built in 1884, it was the only local mortuary in town until latter years around the 1960s. After going through many cycles of use throughout the years, Yuki Yama blossomed on the bottom floor while the top floor, which was formerly an apartment, was used for extra seating when needed. “Think brown attic with a shower in the bathroom,” says owner Matt Baydala. The now-transformed second floor was useful for when the restaurant needed extra seating, but comparated to their beautiful main floor, it wasn’t the most appealing of rooms to dine in. There are no photos available of what it looked like before, but trust me when I say that the change was tremendous.

The new top floor addition truly completes the restaurant in the best way possible. Here are some more pictures, but make sure to check it out in person.

With the new capability to host more private events, the revamp of Yuki Yama’s upstairs space opens a whole can of great opportunity. Great food, check. Fantastic ambiance, check. Dining on both floors, check! Make sure you head in to Yuki Yama located at 586 Main Street for a truly great dining experience, upstairs and down.
