The Upsides of Drinking Tequila

Okay, so I know it says in my profile that I am a total whiskey girl, which I still am wholeheartedly. Nothing makes me and my tummy happier than a delicious glass of whiskey on the rocks, long day or not, but lately I’ve been on a new kick that I can’t seem to shake. Yummy, good quality tequila has been my delicious new game, or poison of choice if you will. Now, I know that there are a good amount of us who have had those nights drinking this specific libation ending in a not so pretty sight, which in the long run makes it a bit hard to make it your first choice on a night out, but like any other alcohol, it’s going to treat you the way you treat it. Bottom line, if you slam it back, it’s going to hurt in the morning. Now that I’ve been enjoying my fair share of tequila lately and exploring different kinds, I thought I would do some research. Turns out, there are quite a few things about this agave goodness that just might make you change your mind about tequila!

Blue Agave - Tequila Cactus

Hangovers

Tequila has been given kind of a bad rap for the hangovers that it provides, but it’s only because you’re drinking too much of the wrong kind. Tequilas that are made and sold in Mexico are required, by law, to be made from only the blue weber agave plant  from the Tequila region in the state of Jalisco. In America, however, tequila makers are allowed to call it tequila even if 49 percent of it is made from other things, mostly sugar-based alcohols. Meaning you’re mixing alcohols and when we do that, we all know what happens.

Sugar Content

The agave plant that tequila is made from produces simple sugars, so the body can break them down easier. People with sugar sensitivities will have an easier time drinking tequila rather than other alcohols with a very high sugar content. It’s diabetes friendly.

Calcium Absorption

Tequila helps aid in your body’s ability to absorb calcium, the mineral that keeps your bones healthy and strong. It also regulates the absorption of fat in your intestines, and will feed the beneficial bacteria living in your intestines10075tequila_shot. Basically, if you want to have a healthy digestive tract, a shot or two of tequila can go a long way. Calcium is also needed in order for your body to burn fat. The more calcium you have, the more fat your body can burn, so a shot or two of tequila might go further than you think!

The Common Cold

Next time you’re feeling under the weather from a cold, mix together lime juice, tequila and agave nectar. The combination of vitamin C andthe nutrients from the agave can relieve a sore throat, help ward off colds altogether, and reduce bacteria in the intestines.

Like I said, this all only applies to the good stuff, so get out there and ‘get healthy’ with some locally made Tequila like Vida!
