Save the date for Park City’s 8th Annual Shot Ski

On Saturday, Oct. 12, Park City will attempt to break a world record and reclaim its title against Breckenridge in the 8th annual Park City Sunrise Shot Ski event. Park City Sunrise Rotary Club and High West Distillery welcome whiskey lovers to throw back for a cause. The spirited fall tradition, whose proceeds benefit local grant programs of the Rotary Club, will take place at 2 p.m. down the center of Park City’s Historic Main Street.

What is a shot ski? It’s quite literally a ski that’s been outfitted with shot glasses. In this case, the glasses are crafted of rubber — not actual glass — and it’s not just one ski. Park City’s record was set at the 2023 event, when a 2,950-foot-long shot ski served 1,363 shots of High West Double Rye whiskey and used 551 skis end to end.

Last year’s event, in addition to setting a record, raised more than $40,000 for the Park City Sunrise Rotary Club grant program. This year’s event aims to raise an ambitious $60,000. Additionally, this year’s event invites 1,385 shot-takers to break Breckenridge’s record set in December 2023 of 1,377 participants. If you’d like to be one of those record-breakers, grab your tickets here!

The Nelson Cottage at High West

Park City’s High West Distillery

Utah’s first legal distillery, High West’s roots stretch back to 1870. And they’re still pouring flawlessly-crafted spirits in Park City. They operate three locations around Park City that feature not only exceptional cocktails, but also great food and atmosphere.

The Saloon, located downtown, is the first ski-in, ski-out gastro distillery in the continental US. Known for its unique charm as a historic landmark and one of Utah’s best apres-ski bars, it’s home to the original 250-gallon copper pot-still in a historic livery stable and garage. They describe the menu as “bold, regional, and seasonal but embracing our spirits to ride along as components of dishes or masterfully paired cocktails and straight pours.”

The Nordic Yurt/ High West

The Refectory is a country comfort, family friendly restaurant and tasting outpost right next to the High West Distillery. Uniquely offered here is the ability to curate your tasting experience from our core products to bottles only found in the High West vault! Stay for a whiskey tasting after your distillery tour, and enjoy Western-inspired fare, delicious cocktails, and stunning views of the surrounding valleys.

The Nelson Cottage is High West’s fine dining establishment, located just two doors up from the Saloon in downtown Park City. Originally serving as a private event space, The Nelson Cottage later became the home of High West’s unique prix-fixe whiskey-paired dinner. The Cottage is where visitors get to experience the marriage of High West food and beverage most intimately. The menu changes weekly with the change in season and the pending the new concoctions the Distillery has worked up to pair.

Melissa Thomasma

In full rebellion against the unpredictable climate of the Rocky Mountains, you can find Melissa on her Teton Valley deck grilling any month of the year. Typically in flip flops. Snow, rain, wind… no weather is too fierce. She’s a lover of peaches in any form, has a borderline addiction to arugula, and (strangely) has been known to drizzle soy sauce on pizza. But even more than she loves her stand mixer and cast iron collection, she adores cooking for her husband and two kids. When this Jackson Hole native isn’t scurrying around her messy kitchen, she’s probably outside floating the river, hiking, camping, fishing, or, well… grilling.
