Park City Kombucha Craze

My guess is, you have seen kombucha pretty much everywhere in Park City- from grocery stores to gas stations, this fermented tea is all the craze to quench your thirst during the warm summer months. But what IS kombucha? Kombucha is a probiotic fermented tea that naturally contains live and active cultures. It starts out as a tea, then ferments with the help of a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast. Predominantly nonalcoholic, kombucha comes in a wide variety of flavors, but all with a tang of fermentation and a slight fizz on the tongue.

We decided to find a few different places where you can get kombucha straight from the tap. Whether you sit down and enjoy this liquid tasty beverage or take it to go, there are plenty of options in Park City to whet your whistle!

Powder Restaurant at Waldorf Astoria Hotel

If you take a tour of my past blogs, you will find I am hopelessly in love with Powder and their amazing cuisine breakfast through dinner. Of course they have raised the bar again and added kombucha on tap featuring a Waldorf Astoria proprietary blend from Sunnte Kombucha of Ogden, UT called Backcountry. Backcountry is crafted from Chun mee, Gunpowder and 5 Peaks green teas blended with lavender, yarrow, and sage extracts with bright flavor profiles using herbs found here locally in the Wasatch Mountains. Primarily fermented for 10 days, and then another 10 days of secondary fermentation creates the natural effervescence.

Backcountry is one of four featured kombuchas from Suntee. Enjoy a kombucha “flight” of all four to see which you fancy, or grab a glass to go with your favorite meal. Featured on their breakfast and lunch menu, I paired the Backcountry with their avocado toast and was in heaven!

Townshend’s Tea Company

You will not find a half-caf-half-soy-skinny-Americano at Townshend’s Tea. This is the teahouse for serious (and not so serious) tea lovers. Experts in their craft of tea and the making of the perfect cup, you can also find Brew Doctor organic kombucha on tap. Hailing from the kitchens of Townshend’s Tea, every batch of Brew Dr. Kombucha is handcrafted from the beginning. Starting with the same high-quality organic teas  served at the teahouses and adding only organic botanicals (dried herbs, roots and fruits). Its a no shortcuts, whole ingredients approach that they have stayed true to from the beginning. The resulting flavors are clean and balanced – neither overwhelmingly vinegary nor cloyingly sweet. And because no juices or other flavors are added, Brew Dr. is an honest and authentic 100% raw kombucha with only naturally occurring live and active cultures.  Grab a glass to enjoy at the teahouse, or sizes from 12 oz. to a 23 oz. growler to go.

They strive to perfectly pair tea profiles with your tastebuds to create a genuine kombucha experience.
