During the winter months, a steaming mug of mulled wine can really hit the spot, especially if it’s poured from a thermos during a wintry outing. As the cold weather creeps in and the holiday season nears, make sure to get your hands on the Ritual Chocolate and Old Town Cellars collaboration chocolate bar that will be the perfect accompaniment for sitting by a fire and cozying up with a hot cup of mulled wine.
The chocolate bar they teamed up to create has the perfect blend of mulling spices mixed alongside Old Town Cellar’s Mountain Town Red, giving all the warmth of this holiday season in every bite.
The perfect winter mix: wine and chocolate
In making this bar, Ritual Chocolate started with the concept first: mulled wine. They worked closely with Old Town Cellars to find a way to impart the flavorful goodness of this winter beverage into their chocolate. To do this, Old Town Cellars lent Ritual Chocolate one of their wine barrels and they filled it with nibs and a massive batch of mulled wine that included the Mountain Town Red wine, oranges, cloves, star anise and cinnamon. Then, the team at Ritual let the nibs soak in this spiced concoction for a couple of months. When the flavor was just right, they emptied the whole barrel, dehydrated the nibs and then made the full batch of chocolate. Sounds like the best part of this whole process, second to all the taste testing, was the aromas in the factory while making it.
The Dishing team had the opportunity to join Old Town Cellars and Ritual Chocolate for their collaboration party, and it was a great way to kick off the holiday season. Old Town Cellars served warm mulled wine and Ritual Chocolate paired it with a tasting of their new chocolate bar. By the end of the night, we were definitely feeling ready for sleigh bells, skiing and sitting by warm fires.

This is a truly limited edition chocolate bar. Only three batches of the Mulled Wine chocolate were made, which should hopefully be enough spiced, chocolatey goodness to get us all through the cold winter months.
