Luxury paired with Little Cottonwood Canyon’s legendary champagne powder? Sounds like a little slice of heaven. The original Snowpine Lodge opened in 1938 and since then has hosted guests from all over the world. The oriental building served the needs of Alta’s mining days–first serving as a general store, a post office, then a makeshift army barracks and later established as a place for skiers in 1938. At that time it was named Snowpine Lodge.
Today, the Snowline Lodge has been completely remodeled from the ground up, on the site of the oldest building in Alta. The lodge has kept nods to its history, like a few original brick walls in the basement and 19 bunks, but the remainder has been recreated into a luxurious mountain lover’s oasis with 78 rooms, full-service restaurant and bar, spa, swimming pool, game room and over 30,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor events space perfect for weddings, corporate retreats, family reunions, weekend getaways or the dream ski vacation.
If you’re looking for a meal mid ski day, ski apres, dinner or even hosting events for larger groups, Snowpine Lodge has a few options to choose from. Swen’s Restaurant is the main restaurant of choice. With floor-to-ceiling window views looking out over Alta, open-display kitchen and cozy modern rustic decor, dining at Swen’s is not to be missed. Menus consist of regionally-sourced ingredients in approachable American cuisine. On the menu, enjoy the roasted chicken with creamy risotto, delicata squash, braised leeks and herb butter sauce. Or try the Wasatch lamb served with roasted potatoes, asparagus, romesco and gremolata. Swen’s is open daily for breakfast 8-10 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. and dinner from 5:30-9 p.m.
The Gulch Pub is a full-service bar located in the lodge with craft cocktails and creative takes on typical apres cuisine with all ingredients sourced locally. It’s a perfect spot to grab a table with friends, or pull up a chair at the bar, enjoy great food and cocktails, all while soaking in the stunning views. The Glutch Pub is open daily for lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and dinner from 3-9 p.m.
In addition to its stellar location and amazing cuisine, Snowpine Lodge has thoroughly thought out what amenities will provide for a first class visit. Complimentary ski lockers with boot warmers and ski valet, outdoor fire pits, fully-equipped fitness center and a beautiful heated outdoor pool are just a few. The lodge even has a game room and lounge area, and includes a little spot for kids. Check it out here.
To round out the luxurious Little Cottonwood Canyon experience, Snowpine Lodge has a stunning spa and offers a variety of services: from massages to facials, beauty treatments and the quiet indoor grotto.
We’ll be going back for a visit soon for a specific cuisine visit so stay tuned!
