St. Patrick’s Day Happenings

Get ready to raise your Guinness glasses, because St. Patrick’s day is here! Like I mentioned in the earlier post featuring the recipe for Irish Ale by Top Shelf, Park City gets remarkably festive on this particular holiday, and if you don’t have to work, there is plenty to do on all over town. Almost every bar and pub will be filled with lively, green-wearing patrons, all celebrating everything and anything Irish. I’m here to tell you how to have the best Irish day, and what exactly will be going on around town!

Flangan’s

If you’re seeking a truly rich Irish experience on St. Patrick’s Day, Flanagan’s will instantly get you in the mood. Already an Irish pub to begin with, this place is constantly counting down to March 17 and for good reason. This place gets really fun. Last time I stopped by there on St. Patrick’s day, a untitledgroup of bagpipes came through and played several songs for everyone in the bar. It was fantastic. Their menu contains some delicious and playful twists on Irish comfort food dishes such as Reuben rolls, which are amazing little bites of flaky, cheesy, corned-beef goodness that are dipped in Thousand Island dipping sauce. Then there’s corned beef sliders, mac ‘n cheese, salads, sandwiches and Irish classics such as Shepherd’s Pie boxty, whiskey chicken boxty, fish and chips, bangers and champ, and St. Patrick’s day wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s day without corned beef and cabbage. See the full menu here. The live music line up will consist of Folk Hogan and Mudpuddle. Be sure to get there early as Flanagan’s fills up quickly.

Rock and Reilly’s

Flanagan’s across-the-street Irish pub neighbor Rock and Reilly’s would be another place that you are going to find the festivities to be downright green, festive, and 100 percent Irish fun. Known for their snarky and positive views on enjoying a libation at any time of day, Rock and Reilly’s definitely knows how to show you a good time. If you get there early enough, they’ll usually be handing out St. Patty’s Day trinkets at the door such as green jewelry that lights up, green necklaces, shot glasses and more! Soak up the booze with some Dublin street tacos, an Irish cheese steak, a short rib grilled cheese (my favorite) or an Irish cheddar grilled cheese and soup. Everything on the menu is the perfect accompaniment with a nice, cold, green beer. They will also have half off select appetizers from 3-6 p.m.

Molly Blooms

bangers-and-mac

Bangers and Mac

If you are planning on celebrating out at the junction, Molly Blooms is your spot. Park City’s third Irish pub and only Irish pub outside of town, hit Molly’s for great food, great drink prices, excellent service and great live entertainment. Molly Bloom’s has sixteen beers on tap plus live music four times a week. A special Irish fare section on their menu includes fish and chips, and bangers and mac alongside gourmet burgers, soups and salads, sandwiches, trout and more. See the full menu here.

Greensky Bluegrass at Park City Live

If you’re looking for some rowdy, boot tappin’ fun after you’ve indulged in your Irish comfort food favorites, you won’t want to miss Greensky Bluegrass with special guest, Rayland Baxter. Founded in Michigan, this five-piece American bluegrass band will provide for a great St. Patty’s day show. As newcomers to the bluegrass scene, the band drew upon an array of influences and varied musical backgrounds to record their first album. The band won the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition in 2006, earning them a spot on the main stage of the 2007 festival. Soon thereafter they released their second studio album and have since released their third and fourth. Get tickets here!

St. Patrick’s Day Specials at The Eating Establishment

A day for wearing green, Irish car bombs and kissing strangers also calls for some corned beef and cabbage. Park City’s oldest, full service restaurant The Eating Establishment will be serving up the Irish classic dish for St. Patty’s day. With lower prices starting at $13 for lunch and $18 for dinner. Their full menu will still be available alongside corned beef and cabbage.

That should be enough to keep you drunk, full and ‘Irishly’ occupied. Be safe out there everyone and have a happy St. Patrick’s day!
