Cinco de Mayo Fiesta by Whole Foods

I love any excuse to eat Mexican food, and Cinco de Mayo is the perfect day to get your salsa on. We already let you know where to go out for a great marg, but if you’d rather enjoy the celebration in the comfort of your home, Whole Foods is your one-stop-shop for a fiesta (and at a great price). I did the hard job of pretesting the goods to confirm that it is all Cinco de Mayo approved, and all I can say is, “la comida estaba deliciosa!”

So what can you get?

Near the produce, you’ll find a super convenitent case of Cinco de Mayo essentials including $7.99 chicken fajitas ready to cook, tortillas, Coronas (not that you’d forget) and 5 limes for $2.

Now, it’s time to really get the party going. Head over to the to-go food and you’ll find a whole wall of tamales. You can get 2 for $4 (four tamales total) with a choice of vegan, pork green chili and chicken with red sauce. I tried them all, and they’re all winners. They also have cute trays of chips, salsa and guacamole. Lastly, pick up some of their  Mexican Cobb salads with grilled chicken, black beans, corn, grilled peppers, queso fresco and spicy ranch dressing.

There you have it, a Mexican feast! I highly recommend the tamales, and here is a quick how-to on the perfect method to heat them up (although they are already perfectly spicy).

Heat the over to 350 F. Lined a baking sheet with aluminum foil and arrange tamales on the sheet.

Wet a paper towel long and wring out until just damp. Lay the paper towel flat on the tamales, covering all the tamales. Fold up the aluminum foil to create a sealed pocket.
