The Perfect Summer Day at the Waldorf Astoria

Tucked beneath the Canyons Village, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Park City offers a stunning mountain retreat with endless activities. Whether you’re coming from the Park City area for a staycation or flying in for a full-on escape, it’s easy to design the perfect day here thanks to all the hotel’s amenities. (P.S. If you’re local to PC, check out the locals’ staycation special, which includes a $50 resort credit.)

Wellness is a big focus at the resort, which includes a brand-new, state-of-the-art fitness facility with workout classes as well as hiking trails right outside the property. To fuel your adventures, the Waldorf’s in-house restaurant, Powder, provides spectacular, locally sourced food all day long. When you’re ready to relax, catch some much-needed R&R at the award-winning spa and peaceful pool. Keep reading to let us guide you through the ideal day at the Waldorf Park City.

Morning: Arrive & Head Out for a Hike

If you’re coming into town, check in to your room and perhaps grab a snack or a coffee to refuel. (We recommend Powder’s green smoothie — get the recipe HERE!). Then, head out the door for unparalleled access to hiking trails within Park City Mountain Resort. The mountains are beautiful any time of year, but we love hiking in the cool, early morning air in August and early fall!

You can take the gondola right up to the base of Canyons Village, where you can choose from a variety of trails ranging from easier to harder. Not sure which hike is best? Talk to the concierge to find out which trail would be the perfect fit for your fitness level.

Lunch: Powder

Lunch at Powder RestaurantChef Hermann Schaefer’s elegant menu for both lunch and dinner delivers on both taste and sustainability. For lunch, options range from hearty to healthy. A couple highlights we tried included the thyme-crusted tuna nicoise salad and the wild mushroom ragu made from locally-sourced mushrooms.

Other dishes you can’t go wrong with include the Park City chicken salad with napa cabbage, rice noodles, roasted cashews, avocado and sesame soy vinaigrette, and the tuna tartare starter with cucumber, avocado and chili vinaigrette.

Afternoon: spa and pool

The fireside lounge in the Waldorf’s spa.

Now it’s time to chill out. Book a massage, facial or any of the fantastic treatments at the award-winning spa at the Waldorf Astoria. (Find the full spa menu HERE.) Insider tip: If you’re a Park City resident, take advantage of the locals rates: On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, you can get a massage or facial for 50 percent off!

The Alpine Fizz, left, and the Boston rum punch

After your spa treatment, head to the pool to soak up some sun while sipping a custom cocktail crafted by the talented Powder bartenders. If it’s on the cooler side, we highly recommend the hot tubs.

Dinner: Powder

Dinner at PowderTime to dine again. Along with a wonderful glass of wine, we enjoyed a creative salad to start — it was  an edible work of art! For an entree, we had the herb-rubbed buffalo tenderloin, served elegantly with ratatouille, cipollini onion, farro risotto, burgundy reduction and foie gras foam. And if you’ve saved room for dessert, you have to try Chef Hermann’s dessert creations (he’s a trained pastry chef, too).
