Two Romantic Options For Al Fresco Dining

Fall is in the air. It’s time to plan a cozy dinner for two at romantic restaurants on lower Main; Buona Vita and 710 Bodega on Main. Transport yourself to Italy and Spain with the authentic cuisine being artfully crafted at these two family-owned establishments.

Buona Vita Ristorante Italiano

Buona Vita, located at 804 Main Street, is a culmination of global cooking and family-inspired dishes. As it began, it is still run by family using family recipes from great grandmothers passed down through the generations.

Starting with mozzarella alla caprese, mussels vaporetto and shrimp Provenzale your palate will begin to wake up to the tastes of the old world.

The menu is full of entrées that you will find hard to pronounce, but equally as hard to stop eating. A local favorite is the alla mastari pizza with basil pesto sauce, mozzarella, onions, oven roasted tomato and chicken.  Try the Don Bergante Del’Ortiss pasta with Italian sausage, marinara sauce, garlic, basil, bell peppers, onion over penne pasta. All pastas can have a protein of your choice added.

I had the spaghetti vongole with clams, white wine, garlic, bacon, lemon, chili flakes, tossed with spaghetti pasta. It was fantastically spicy with a delicate sauce and a really good portion of bacon. My husband had the Marsala, marinated breast of chicken, capellini, marsala wine, garlic, mushrooms, cream and carrots. It was perfectly balanced and slightly sweet from the marsala wine.

As always, there is room for dessert, right? How about sharing the tiramisu, lady fingers soaked in espresso coffee with mascarpone filling, a touch of amaretto with chocolate.

With an extensive and fully curated wine list and including cocktails, specialty drinks and aperitif’s, Buona Vita will leave you more than satisfied.

Note: Buona Vita will be closed from Oct 15-Nov. 15 for the shoulder season. Take advantage of the dining special below and the late summer weather to enjoy a memorable meal for two.

710 Bodega on Main

Spanish tapas more your style? Head over to 710 Bodgea on Main, located at 710 Main Street. A modern style Spanish tapas bar, mixing traditional plates with their own twist on the classics. Their moto: It’s simple really, it’s about good food, drinks, and great service in a relaxed setting.

Tapas plates are perfectly portioned for two. No decisions need to be made, just order one of each. Start with the piquillo peppers, stuffed with crab meat, and Manchego cheese in a saffron lobster sauce. Of course, you can find housemade Bodega paella for two or four with chicken, Spanish chorizo, saffron, shrimp, clams and vegetables.

We sampled the pulpo a la gallega, octopus, potatoes, tomatoes and garlic in a sherry paprika sauce. The octopus was so well cooked, firm yet delicate, and the sauce was just the right blend of spices. The crispy duck spring rolls with a chili plumb sauce are a good decision for those who don’t walk on quite the wild side.

Again, 710 Bodega on Main has an extensive wine and cocktail list with specialty coffee drinks as well.  Try their housemade sangria. If you have ever been to Spain, this drink (and order the carafe) will transport you back to the days of siestas and Spanish sunsets.
