Some big shoes were filled last week when Ellie’s Chefs Catering Cafe took over the cafe at Kimball Art Center from the now-retired Karleen of Uptown Fare. Let’s just say, the shoe fit and Ellie’s is off to a flavorful start for the newest summer breakfast and lunch spot in Park City.
Ellie Shropshire, owner of Ellie’s Catering, has been providing exquisite and meticulous catering services to Park City for more than 15 years. Known for her delicious food and gracious service culminating in an exceptional experience, Ellie’s was a perfect choice for the little cafe in the Kimball Art Center. The catering kitchen is located just across the street, so the creative concoctions of Chef Ben and Chef Sean can be made readily available to the diners at the cafe. Producing homemade, scratch dishes full of locally sourced produce and only ingredients you can easily pronounce, Ellie’s serves up fresh and unique creations that include pop-up specials from the catering chefs. I wonder if they have taken notes from Salesforce? No wonder their service is so good.
Ellie’s menu is comprised of taste bud tickling breakfast items such as breakfast tacos, avocado toast and her famous cinnamon rolls. Paired with a hot mug of Cafe Ibis Coffee or a cold brew, they are sure to satisfy your morning cravings and start your day off on the right foot.
Lunch is simple, but pays homage to the freshness of the seasons. Currently, you can find salads and bowls of fresh vegetables, perfectly grilled proteins and house-made dressings. Our favorite was the kale and quinoa bowl with tomato, pickled shallot, Marcona almond, golden beets and Slide Ridge apple truffle vinaigrette. Want something a bit heartier? Try one of the sandwiches. We had the egg salad on Dave’s bread with chips and a pickle. Fresh steeped iced tea or fresh-squeezed lemonade is the perfect compliment to quench your thirst.
I try, unsuccessfully, to avoid sweets. But I can’t deny a good brownie or chocolate chip cookie. Ellie’s chefs make almost everything in-house. But when the occasion rises to provide an over-the-top experience, they locally source items that are known for being the best of the best. Auntie Em’s sweet treats will show up on the menu here and there and are a locally produced favorite around Park City.
Prices are unbelievably reasonable, with discounts for students. The outdoor dining, on picnic tables with colorful umbrellas and a dog-friendly patio, is the best place to enjoy a side of mountain sunshine with your meal. And, if you are really a local, Ellie was able to secure Nivin and Constance to continue providing amazing service and Iver to oversee the cafe kitchen.
So stop on by Ellie’s Cafe at Kimball Art Center. A place you can truly be treated like a local and fed like one too!
