If you haven’t stopped by the new Snowpine Lodge in Alta, grabbing a meal at Swen’s (the lodge’s restaurant) is a great reason to make the trip. The views overlooking the ski slopes are stunning and the decor provides a rustic, yet elegant, vibe. The cuisine is simple with a refined twist. Swen’s regionally sources fresh ingredients and has an extensive wine and beer list.
If you’re on mountain, you can access the lodge by taking Snowpine Lift at Alta, skiing down into the ski valet and taking the elevator up. If you’re driving up, park at any of the neighboring parking lots, walk to the lodge and the restaurant is to the left as you enter the lobby. We recently stopped by and gathered six dish suggestions for your visit:
1. Nduja Pizza
Nduja is a spreadable salami, and when paired with other ingredients like hot honey, it adds some flare to the common pre or post-ski meal. The remaining ingredients include red pizza sauce, goat cheese and basil.
2. Classic Wedge Salad
Swen’s has a few other salad options on the menu, but the classic wedge is a customer favorite. This dish contains the staple wedge ingredients of iceberg lettuce, heirloom grape tomatoes, red onion, bacon, blue cheese and ranch dressing.
3. Mixed Game Chili
After hours of skiing, load up with protein and carbs from Swen’s twist on the classic chili bowl. The mixed game includes elk, bison and beef. Enjoy it in a bread bowl topped with candied jalapenos and smoked cheddar.
4. Snowpine Burger
What would be a more classic après meal than a cheeseburger? This stack of deliciousness includes two beef patties with American cheese, red onion, shredded iceberg lettuce, pickles and served with ketchup or fry sauce.
5. Maryland Crab Cake
This recipe was brought back from the East Coast, making it a true New England-style crab cake. Served with tartar sauce and lemon, it’s a great appetizer to share.
6. Cookie Skillet
Triple chocolate chip cookie with French vanilla ice cream and topped with salted caramel. Served straight-from-the-oven hot…enough said!
