A Local Taste: Alpen + Hyde Spa owner Shana Ominsky

With over 20 years of spa and hospitality experience, local Shana Ominsky decided it was time to open her own spa, Alpen + Hyde. Ominsky moved to Park City to fill the Spa Director position with Montage Deer Valley and stayed on for eight years. If that isn’t enough to get you running to book a treatment at Alpen + Hyde, then here are some other noteworthy spas under her belt.

Before her time with the Montage Deer Valley, she was the Executive Spa Director with The Peninsula in New York. She also worked with the Claremont Resort and Spa (Bay Area) and Ritz-Carlton’s Bacara Resort and Spa (Santa Barbara). When she isn’t running top-rated spas, she enjoys hiking, skiing, and hot yoga.

Originally from the “Gourmet Ghetto” (the birthplace of Californian cuisine and Chez Panisse by Alice Waters), Ominsky claims a solid affiliation for the finer things in the hospitality world of spas and food and beverages. She hopes that those with similar tastes visiting or residing in Park City find Alpen + Hyde a perfect place to be pampered with therapeutic, deep tissue, hot stone, Swedish massages or some reflexology work.

What is your favorite restaurant in Park City, and why?

My favorite restaurant is Hearth and Hill. I love the food and the staff, especially Brooks Kirchheimer, the owner. They have the best burger in town, hands down!

What is your favorite beverage in town?

My favorite cocktail in town is a nice dirty Ketel One martini with extra olives at Butcher’s Chophouse. I’m actually a wine gal myself, but if I do a cocktail… that’s it.

What is your favorite restaurant for take-out?

For take-out, I love Wasatch Brew Pub. It’s right across the street from Alpen + Hyde. When I’m tired after work, I love their BLT and like to have a glass of vino while I wait with Zach, the bartender; he’s awesome.

What is your favorite spot for lunch or dinner?

When I can, or I’m craving it, I’ll get the macadamia nut-crusted halibut at Riverhorse. That dish is incredible; it’s my favorite.

What is your favorite food? And what Park City restaurant serves it best?

My favorite food is fried chicken, and Boneyard Saloon does it the best. Wait, actually, I really love Fresh Market’s fried chicken too!

What is the best overall experience you’ve had at a restaurant in Park City?

My best dining experience has been sitting at Oishi with Vadim, who we chat with; he is the BEST.

What’s your favorite Park City tradition or holiday?

My favorite tradition for the holidays is Hanukkah at the Montage and Christmas s’mores at any of the resorts.

If you were to go out for a treat, what’s your go-to and where?

I rarely eat sweets, but when I do, Java Cow always hits the spot.

Anything you’re looking forward to with regards to dining this fall?

I’m looking forward to new yummy fall offerings at all the restaurants. I love fall soups and squash, so I hope everyone will come up with some great recipes!
