Table-Scapes and Party Planning

In most circumstances, almost every celebration, get together or party revolves around some sort of table.  Whether the table is scattered with plates of food, an array of beverages, small bowls of snacks, this particular table is quite important.  It’s the first place people go when they get there as well as keep going back to throughout the event.  So why not dress it up and make it look a little more appealing?  Well, many of us may not exactly know how.  It’s so easy to overdo and make it seem congested or not even quite know where to begin. Not to worry, Terri Gentry, founder and owner of Planit PC, has some perfect tips for us all.  With more than 30 years in the hospitality business, Gentry has an incredible ability to create memorable events for any occasion.  Her focus today is table-scapes and party planning tips.

First, let’s talk about tablescapes.

1.) The nicer the vase, the less you have to do with the flowers.  Don’t be afraid of making the flower’s vessel the star of the show.  One of Gentry’s favorite places to shop for vases is West Elm.

2.) Take things up a notch with the vase and take things down a notch with the flowers you’re putting into it.  A one stem flower with some greenery will be enough.  Simple is better.

3.) If you’re using more than one flower in a simpler vase, don’t be intimidated with feelings like “I’m not a florist, I don’t know how to arrange these.” Pick up the bunch of flowers in your hand, then secure the stems with a rubber band.  This will keep the arrangement looking nice and tight.

4.) Put down the greenery first, then create clusters around the greenery.

5.) Most importantly, don’t complicate things.

Now for Terri’s 3 party planning tips:

1.) Don’t panic.  Know that your guests will appreciate anything you do for them, only you will know if something doesn’t go as planned.

2.) Use Pinterest. Set up your boards based on the parties you may plan (Thanksgiving, birthdays, etc) then when the time comes, it will be easier.

3.) Use fun plates and serving utensils.  I think everything tastes better on pretty plates and it will also add to your decor.

Thank you for your tips Terri!
