And just like that, the first month of 2023 has flown by and we didn’t go dry…
For many Park City residents and visitors, January was filled with ski runs, making the most of (or avoiding) the Sundance Film Festival, and trying a tasty local drink (or six).
Here are six we tried this month that we think you should too!
Old Town Cellars’ Superior (red wine)
Old Town Cellars’ cozy location on Main Street is perfect for a date nightcap. We went in to try a glass of their newest release, the Superior. This bottle is a red blend, and we left with a bottle because we loved it so much. Named after the beloved mountain in Little Cottonwood Canyon, it’s a nice blend of syrah, merlot and tempranillo grapes.
Old Fashioned with High West Rendezvous
There’s something about an old fashioned when the weather turns cold, especially one made with High West’s Rendezvous Rye whiskey. Ask for it the next you go for a meal at their Saloon, or grab a bottle to make your own rendition at home. Either way, you’re in for a flavorful, stout drink that’s considered a classic for a reason.
Wasatch Brewery’s Snow Bank Amber Lager
Wasatch’s Brew Pub, location at the top of Main Street, has been a Park City mainstay for 30 years. On a recent visit, we went for an apres-ski combo of fig pizza and their Snow Bank amber lager. It’s equal parts malty and hoppy – perfect for a refresher after a day on the mountain. This beer is part of their brewmaster Nils Imboden’s special selections menu.
Reading this on your way out of Salt Lake’s airport? Don’t worry; they’ve got you covered before takeoff at their airport location in Terminal B.
Tsuki Sake’s Super Moon
When every day is a snow day, there’s never a wrong time for a heartwarming bowl of ramen at Hana Ramen. When we popped in for dinner, we were excited to see they had Utah’s premier craft sake, Tsuki Sake, on draft. We ordered a glass of the Super Moon, their original cold, sparkling sake that tastes crisp and refined – a perfect contrast to a bowl of spicy tonkotsu ramen.
Red Rock Brewery’s Elephino Double IPA
Tucked into Kimball Junction is Red Rock’s Park City outpost. Stop in the next time you want to watch a game and drink a nice brew. The Elephino Double IPA we tried is high on hops without being overpowering. The grapefruit and caramel notes went great with the warm goat cheese salad.
The Temptress with Alpine Gin
As one of the newer additions to Main Street, the Star Bar has one of the best cocktail menus we’ve experienced in Utah. Our current favorite is The Temptress, a unique, rose petal-topped drink made with Alpine Distilling gin and St. Germain. As part of our Ask for It series, we’ve got the inside scoop on the recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 ¼ ounces of Alpine Distilling gin
- ½ ounce lime juice
- ½ ounce St-Germain elderflower liqueur
- ½ ounce crème de violette liqueur
- 3 drops Wonderfoam cocktail foam (The Star Bar likes using this instead of egg whites to thicken and foam drinks because it is vegan and is easy to keep at room temperature)
- Dehydrated rose petals, for garnish
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients in a shaker, and dry shake first. Then, add ice, and shake again. Strain into a coupe glass, and garnish with dehydrated rose petals.
